The city of Morstel is -due to it’s location close to Antwerp- confronted with a loaded environmental passive. Cities in Flanders only have an advisory role in soil remediation on their territory, but they are the first party to be confronted with worried residents and neighbours. Mortsel is faced with a number of cases where chlorinated solvent pollution has an impact on a large area. The cities are competent in the delivery of building permits and therefore control the urban planning.

The participation of Mortsel and Gent assures the applicability of the project’s results on the field. From their point of view, close to the citizens, they will judge and adjust the project’s intermediate results.
